In mid-April, after paying my taxes (ugh!)..... I needed a boost. How did I get that boost? By focusing on something I love.

I presented an IACET webinar on the topic of "Creating & Delivering Engaging Presentations." We all hate to sit through boring Power Point presentations, right? I know I do. I figure if there's something I don't like, there's no point in complaining about it. So, I got going, and created something to help. I can't help it, I'm a helper – it's what I do.

Sometimes, it's hard to create a presentation. Often we're asked because we're subject-matter experts, or what we call in the biz "SMEs." It's easy to go on and on and on and on and on.... (you get the picture, right) about something we're passionate about. But the tricky part is to keep it engaging so we can demonstrate to others, who might be blissfully ignorant, about why our topic is so cool. So, I went to work, and practiced what I preach.

It must have been ok, because at the end, the participants were still awake enough to ask very insightful questions. I love it when I learn something new from my participants – it's my personal yard-stick of a successful presentation. So, if you have some really cool information to share – say "Yes!" when Judson asks you to present at an upcoming webinar. If you have something to learn (and face it, don't we all???), sign up for an upcoming webinar. The webinars are a free benefit of membership (we all love free things, right?), and it's cool to learn something new every day.
